What to see at Piazza De Ferrari

The Fountain
A large circular bronze basin, the work of architect Cesare Crosa di Vergagni, inaugurated in 1936. Restored several times over the decades, it remains Genoese people's favourite meeting point.
Palazzo Ducale
The former seat of the Doge of the Republic of Genoa, with medieval origins. It faces the square with its side wall; the main entrance is on the adjacent Piazza Matteotti. Today it hosts museums and major temporary exhibitions.
Torre Grimaldina
The oldest tower of Palazzo Ducale, used for centuries as a prison for political and common prisoners — hence its nickname "la Grimaldina". Today it can be visited as part of the museum routes.
Teatro Carlo Felice
Genoa's principal opera house, designed by Carlo Barabino in the neoclassical style and inaugurated in 1828. Rebuilt after wartime bombing, it hosts major opera and symphonic seasons today.
Palazzo della Borsa
The former Genoa stock exchange, a masterpiece of Genoese Art Nouveau (1907-12) by Dario Carbone with decorations by Adolfo Coppedè. At the corner of Via Dante and Via XX Settembre.
Garibaldi Monument
Equestrian statue by Augusto Rivalta (1893), at the corner between Teatro Carlo Felice and the Accademia Ligustica di Belle Arti, Genoa's historic art school.
